Counseling Intern
Carrigan Carrell is a graduate student in the Clinical Psychology master's program at Governors State University and is currently completing her clinical training as a counseling intern. She is passionate about creating a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered throughout the counseling process.
Carrigan's approach is primarily person-centered, emphasizing empathy, authenticity, and the importance of a strong therapeutic relationship. She is also drawn to existential perspectives that encourage exploration of meaning, purpose, identity, and life's challenges. While her foundation is person-centered, she also draws from evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to support each client's unique goals.
She believes that growth often begins with greater self-understanding. Carrigan values helping clients explore the patterns and experiences that shape their lives and strives to create a space where they can openly explore their experiences, gain insight into themselves and their relationships, and move toward the changes that matter most to them.
